Why
choose homestay accommodation?
With
the homestay option, you live with a friendly local host in
their own home. This
is a very effective way of increasing your confidence in using
English on a day-to-day basis.
Hosts understand how difficult it can be to express yourself
in a foreign language. They are carefully selected to meet our
strict requirements and many have several years' experience
of looking after Studio Young Learners.
You
share a twin room with a student of the same sex and a similar
age, but from a different country.
Meals
All meals apart from weekday lunches are provided by your host,
including packed lunches on weekends. Lunches on class days
are provided at the St Christopher course centres.
Any
special need you may have (for reasons of religion, diet or
health) are taken into account when you are placed with your
host. Please remember to state these clearly when applying
for your chosen course.
See
family
accommodation in our 'services' section, for details of
'You and your host' and 'How we choose our hosts'.

Why choose residential accommodation?
Living
on-campus
provides a taste of university life. Our residences are at
Cambridge University's, Ridley Hall College, Pembroke College
(Selwyn Gardens) or Lucy Cavendish College.
The
bedrooms are on campus or just 10 minutes' walk from the St
Christopher course centre. They are 10-15 minutes' walk from
the centre of Cambridge.
Studio
staff also live in the residences, providing 24-hour care and
supervision. The
staff-to-student ratio is approximately 1:12 and
the wardens are never far away if you have any questions or
need help.
Rooms
are traditional in style and most have their own character. Single
and shared rooms are available, and a limited number have a private bathroom.
Please
contact us for availability.
Meals
The
cost of all meals is included in the course fees. For
Ridley Hall and Lucy Cavendish College students, breakfast, lunch and dinner are available
in the on-site dining hall. Students staying in the
Pembroke College residence will be served their breakfast in
their rooms during the week, but lunch, dinner and weekend breakfast
will be served in the dining hall at Ridley Hall.
There
is a wide choice of hot and cold food and a vegetarian option
for every meal. At weekends packed lunches are provided.
Laundry
Laundry facilities are available on-site. Students are required
to do their own clothes laundry. One wash per week may be done
free of charge. Bed
linen is provided at the residence and will be changed
and washed once each week.
Keys
Students
will be given keys to their room and to the entrance to the
residences. A small deposit of £10
will be taken when the keys are issued, in case the keys are
lost.
Evenings
When there are no organised activities, Studio wardens will
help create a comfortable and informal atmosphere where you
can socialise.
All the residences are situated in residential areas. All students and staff are asked to respect the privacy of our neighbours and avoid excessive noise in the evenings.
We also ask that all students enter the building
as quietly as possible if they return home late. We ask
students aged 16 and 17 to return home by 23:00, and students aged 18+ return home by 24:00.
Your
free time
It is important to note that students in residence on the
St Christopher course will have plenty of free time and independence
- for example all day Sunday and most evenings are free. There
are always things to do in Cambridge and the Studio wardens
are there to help and supervise in case of problems. However,
a higher degree of maturity and independence is required for
students staying in St Christopher residential accommodation.
Residential
accommodation is recommended only to students
who are mature and responsible.
