Accommodation
Where to Stay During Your Course?

Accommodation Types

Where and how you live in Cambridge is crucial to the enjoyment of your course. We offer a choice of accommodation that includes:

Living with a Cambridge host in a "Homestay" is the best and most popular way to experience British life at first hand and provides you with a friendly, secure, English-speaking environment.

If you enrol on our St Christopher summer course, rooms are available at Ridley Hall, (one of Cambridge University's most beautiful traditional colleges) and other Cambridge University residences. Summer residential accommodation is ideal if you want to experience English-style student life.

We also have residential rooms available to students on our adult courses during July and August (see below for details). Please contact us for details in advance, as supply is limited

From September to June we have access to several other residential rooms in Cambridge. Please contact us for details in advance, as supply is very limited.

Student lodging houses are a good choice if you are more interested in independence than a family atmosphere. These are larger homes with only students living there and therefore offer a more communal atmosphere than traditional homestays.

We can also reserve accommodation for you at one of the many excellent hotels and guest houses in Cambridge. These range from small privately run establishments to large, world-class hotels.

Accommodation Costs

Please note that the Accommodation and Student Life Fees quoted in the course prices pages of this website, relate to accommodation in a Homestay 3 star *** (in a private room), at a cost of £120 (180 Euros) per week.

Homestay *****

Executive standard accommodation, usually in a large house and often providing a private bathroom.

What can you expect from your Homestay accommodation?

Single Rooms - For your privacy and comfort, we provide only single study bedrooms (although twin rooms are available if requested).

Meals and Laundry - Your hosts will provide you with breakfast and dinner each day from Monday to Friday and all meals at weekends. (Lunch is served from Monday to Friday in the Studio cafe, at a small additional cost). Your host will change your bed linen and wash your clothes at least once per week.

Other students in the Homestay - Often, there will be another Studio student staying with the same host as you. However, that student will be of a different nationality.

How we select our hosts - Studio hosts are selected because they are friendly people who enjoy hosting international students. They provide a warm, welcoming environment where you will feel at home.
Our Accommodation Office uses established criteria in selecting homestays. Each host is visited at least once a year when we gather, and then continuously up-date, the following information about each host:

Personal details - names of all members of the family; their occupations and personal interests; the ages, school details and interests of the children, if any; if anyone in the house smokes and their attitude to smoking; if they have pets; whether they can cater for special diets, such as vegetarian or gluten-free; whether any other languages are spoken at home

The Home - Location; distance from school; walking, cycling or bus routes to school; type of home (house, apartment); size and style; number of bedrooms; type of bedrooms and facilities; number of bathrooms; facilities (garden, TV etc)

Our host's commitment to you - In receiving Studio students, our hosts:

  • Welcome you to their home when you arrive and help you find your way in Cambridge
  • Make you feel part of the family, rather than just a paying guest
  • Encourage you to speak English, involve you in their normal daily life and invite you to take your meals with them
  • Provide a good, nutritious and balanced diet, taking particular care if you have an allergy or dietary restriction
  • Provide a change of bed linen, and wash your clothes at least once per week
  • Show concern for your welfare, safety and security and stay in close contact with the school

Residential Accommodation

If you enrol on our St Christopher course in the summer (from 29 June -
24 August 2008), you will have the option to stay in one of Cambridge University's most beautiful, traditional colleges - Ridley Hall.

Ridley Hall is a fine Victorian building, set in its own attractive gardens just 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Cambridge. Studio Cambridge occupies the entire college each summer.

The rooms are spacious, single or shared and usually have their own wash-basins. The shared bathrooms are used by no more than four students, but some rooms have private en-suite bathrooms.

Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are available in the attractive dining hall at Ridley, during the week. On the weekend, breakfast and dinner are served in the dining hall and you will also receive a packed lunch.

Other Cambridge University residential accommodation, of a similar standard and in walking distance of Ridley Hall, will also be available in 2008. Please contact us for details.

The Advantages

  • Traditional buildings set in beautiful gardens
  • The full flavour of Cambridge student life
  • Ideally located in the historic heart of Cambridge

The rooms are single rooms with private en-suite bathrooms. The kitchen facilities are shared bathrooms between a maximum of 6 people.
