Ely (pronounced to rhyme with “freely”) is a beautiful, peaceful city in the heart of the Cambridgeshire countryside: the ideal setting for children. It is 25 kilometres north of Cambridge and 120 kilometres from London.
Its magnificent cathedral, established in 1083, dominates the city and makes this one of the finest and most unspoilt mediaeval cities in Britain. Many of the mediaeval buildings are part of The King’s School’s teaching centres and dormitories.
The centre of the town has a traditional English 'High Street' with a wide range of shops and a classic market square. Although it is a city, Ely has a population of only 15,000 people and is often described as a 'village'; not surprising when everyone you meet soon becomes a friend.
