Homestay accommodation with a local host

Living with a British host in homestay accommodation is the best way to experience British life at first hand and provides you with a friendly, English-speaking environment. Homestay accommodation is available to you in Cambridge. You will share your room with another student - a new friend and companion.

Your host provides you with breakfast and dinner each day. Lunch is served at the school on class days and by your host at the weekend.

Once we have placed you with a suitable host we will send you information about them and where they live. You can check this on the map by going to the St. Michael', St George or St. Christopher pages of this site.

We always try our best to choose the ideal family for you. But if there are ever any problems, big or small, our accommodation team is always there to help.

We ask you to respect your host's rules while you are staying with them and therefore we send you some information giving you advice on things to remember during your stay.

You and Your Host

Life in England is probably different to what you are used to at home.
To make your stay as enjoyable as possible, here are some guidelines we ask all our students to follow:

  • Ask for permission when:
    • using the telephone
    • taking food from the fridge or cupboard
  • Tell your host if you are not coming home for your evening meal or are going to be late for a meal.
  • Make sure that you return home at the appropriate time in the evening.
  • Give your dirty clothes to your host once a week and they will be washed for you.
  • Talk to your host and ask questions if there is anything you need or do not understand. They will be happy to help.
  • Leave your valuables in a safe place at your host's home. For your security, do not carry large amounts of money when you are going out.
In the rare event of there being a problem with your host that you can't resolve with them, you can talk to the Course Director, your teacher or one of our full-time student welfare officers. They will be happy to put things right.

How we select our hosts

Our Accommodation team visits each host in the months before your course. We gather, and then continuously up-date, the following information:

Personal Details
- Names of all members of the family
- Their occupations and personal interests
- The ages, school details and interests of the children, if any
- If anyone in the house smokes and their attitude to smoking
- If they have pets
- Whether they can cater for special diets
- Whether they speak any other languages

The Home
- Location
- Distance from school
- Walking, cycling or bus routes to school
- Type of home (house, apartment)
- Size and style
- Number of bedrooms and bathrooms
- Facilities (garden, TV etc)

Our Hosts' Commitment to You
In receiving Studio students, our hosts:
- Welcome you to their home when you arrive and help you make your way to school
- Make you feel part of the family, rather than just a paying guest
- Encourage you to speak English, and involve you in their normal daily life
- Provide a good, nutritious and balanced diet, taking particular care if you have an allergy or dietary restriction
- Are concerned for your welfare and stay in close contact with the school
