Sir Michael, Cambridge – 13 to 17

What can you expect from Sir Michael?

Ages 13 to 17 | Cambridge | Open June 20th – August 29th 2021

Each summer, Studio Main school becomes a camp for our teenage students. Studio Cambridge’s Sir Michael has been running here since 1969 and is more popular now than ever in our Summer English school in Cambridge. Both Residential and Homestay accommodation are available at the Sir Michael camp.

Homestay students join the Sir Michael Classic course, while Residential students can choose between the Sir Michael Classic, Intensive, Global Leaders, Coding or Creative Social Media courses – see our course options for more details!

Sir Michael has a large capacity with up to 400 students. During our busiest times, classes may be in the morning or the afternoon. There is a wide range of nationalities and the ratio of staff to students here is high. The average number of students per class is 12 or 13 and the maximum class size is 16.

Residential accommodation is available in nearby student residences, all within easy walking distance from the school. There are a few twin rooms but most rooms provided are single bedrooms with private en-suite bathrooms.

This is an ideal centre for our 13-15 year old students ready to deal with a little more independence and who are looking for a real taste of Cambridge life. Or for our 16-17 year old students who feel more comfortable studying with younger teenagers rather than older teenagers.

The city of Cambridge

Cambridge is one of the most famous, and most instantly recognised, city names in the world. It has been a centre of learning for 800 years and is the international symbol of academic excellence. But it is also fun! With 20,000 university students, virtually the only “business” of Cambridge is education and, despite its age, the whole city is designed for young people.

It is the ideal place for the international English language student.

How do we keep you safe?

At all of our camps, we have high levels of staff-to-student supervision. To ensure proper supervision is maintained students must attend all lessons, activities, meals and excursions, unless they are unwell. However, there are times at most camps when students are allowed unsupervised free time. Please see below for details:

Sir Michael Residential students:

  • have some periods of time each day where they are unsupervised, as accommodation is not on-campus
  • are allowed some unsupervised free time whilst on excursions
  • must be in the residence by 21:30
  • will start preparing for bed time by 22:00

Sir Michael Homestay students:

  • have some periods of time each day where they are unsupervised, as they live in homestays and are required to travel to and from school alone (or with a friend)
  • are unsupervised by Studio staff in the evenings when no activities are scheduled
  • are unsupervised by Studio staff on Sundays
  • may have some unsupervised free time whilst on excursions
  • may choose to eat dinner out and not return to their homestay for their evening meal (if agreed with the host)
  • may have some periods of time in the homestay house without an adult present
  • must be in the homestay by 22:00 each evening
  • must not travel independently outside of Cambridge without the written consent of a parent or guardian.

Evenings:

On the Sir Michael Homestay course there are evening activities organised for students on 3 nights of the week. Students can go out in the evenings but must return home by 22:00 at the latest. Students who fail to return on time will be reported to the school by their hosts. This is an important rule for us and returning late is considered serious misconduct and action will be taken.
