2018 summer camp changes

29th January 2018

As always, student safety takes priority at Studio Cambridge. In keeping with current best practice and the British Council inspection criteria, we have made some small but important changes to the timetables and rules at some of our 2018 summer camps.

The timetables and rules are clarified below for each centre. The most important changes have been highlighted in blue for your attention. Our website timetables are all up to date with the new schedules, but please note that there are some differences with the example timetables published in the Studio brochure. Please read carefully and let us know if you have any questions.

Sir Edward in Ely – for ages 9 to 13
Bedtime
For our youngest camp in Ely, quiet time in the evenings once again begins at 21:00 with “lights out” by 21:30.
Supervision & Free time
Students will not have any unsupervised free-time on excursions. The only unsupervised free time off-campus will be on afternoons when an Ely town visit is scheduled (usually once per week). During the town visit, students are allowed free time within the area of High Street and Market Street only. Studio staff will also be present in town centre.
Sir Henry in Bishop’s Stortford – for ages 10 to 16
Sir Richard in Reading – for ages 10 to 16
Bedtime
For this age group students of all ages have the same quiet time in the evenings, which once again begins at 21:30, with “lights out” by 22:30.
Supervision & Free time
Rules at these 2 camps are slightly different for ages 10 to 12, compared to the teenagers. Students aged 12 and under will not have any unsupervised free-time on excursions. The only unsupervised free time off-campus will be on afternoons when a town visit is scheduled (usually once per week). On town visits, students are only allowed free time within a specified area of the town centre where Studio staff will also be present. Teenagers aged 13 and over are allowed a limited amount of unsupervised free time on excursions and in specified areas during the town visit.
Timetable - changes to published examples
Timings for dorm time and breaks have been adjusted in 2018 to allow for a longer lunch break and longer after-dinner dorm time

Sir Laurence in Cambridge – for ages 13 to 16
Bedtime
Quiet time in the evenings begins at 22:00, with “lights out” by 23:00.
Supervision & Free time
Students will only be allowed to go off-campus into Cambridge when supervised by Studio staff. They will be allowed a limited amount of unsupervised free time on excursions and in specified areas during the town visit.
Timetable – changes to published examples
A new dorm-time session is scheduled between 17:15 & 18:00
More scheduled activities
Sir Laurence will have more scheduled activity sessions in 2018. Extra activities are scheduled for Thursday and Sunday afternoons and every week day after class.
The extra activities replace previous free time sessions and will be either a regular activity, supervised study or a town visit.

Sir William in London – for ages 14 to 16
Bedtime
Quiet time in the evenings begins at 22:00, with “lights out” by 23:00.
Supervision & Free time
Students will only be allowed to go off-campus (unsupervised) into Richmond town centre between afternoon classes or activities and dinner. Dinner must be taken at the Sir William campus and all students must be on-campus by 17:30 each evening (except during excursions). Visits to central London are not permitted, but students will be allowed a limited amount of unsupervised free time during excursions. Timetable – changes to published examples
A new dorm-time session is scheduled between 19:00 & 19:45.

Supervision & Free time
Students will be allowed a limited amount of unsupervised free time on excursions. They may not travel unsupervised outside Cambridge, but may have unsupervised free time in Cambridge when the schedule allows.
Timetable – changes to published examples
For students with morning lessons – after lunch, residential students will register for dorm-time at their residence so they can change for activities. Homestay students will register at school.
A Sunday morning free time session is still scheduled for residential students.
More scheduled activities or classes
Sir Michael will have more scheduled activity sessions in 2018. Extra activities are scheduled every Thursday, (where free time was previously offered). Students on the Global Leaders or Creative Social Media afternoon courses will receive an extra Thursday session of classes.
