April student interview

10th April 2014

What are your names and where are you from?
H: My name is Hiba and I am from Tripoli, the capital of Libya.
G: My name is German from Colombia

Which course are you doing?
H: I am studying on the IELTS course.
G: I am also studying on the IELTS course.

So far, what do you like most about Studio?
H: I very much like that books are provided for reading, the wifi is easily accessible and I enjoy the activities that Studio put on for students. The staff are most friendly and I find Studio very accommodating.
G: I really enjoy the classes, they really help my English to flow better.

What do you think about the teaching methods that we use?
H: Every teacher at Studio has different methods of teaching which makes my morning lessons very different from the afternoon ones. Overall, the difference of teaching methods makes learning more interesting as no one lesson is the same.
G: I think they are excellent. The best methods for me personally are communicative activities where I get my practice and improve my English speaking skills.

Has your English improved?
H: Yes it has improved, especially my speaking and grammar.
G: Yes it has improved a lot thanks to these teaching methods.

What do you think about British people? Are they different from people in your country?
H: They are different culturally but very kind and polite people.
G: The British people are a really warm society; they sometimes differ from Colombian people but also have a lot of similarities.

What is your favourite thing about Cambridge? (and favourite place to go)
H: I really enjoy punting on a nice day in Cambridge. I also like that public transport is easy to use to get around Cambridge.
G: Cambridge has a good student environment and I enjoy walking around the city.

How is Cambridge similar/different to your city?
H: People in my city in Libya do not use bikes to get around, but they have their own car to travel. It is completely the opposite here.
G: Cambridge is a very different city from Bogota, Colombia. Bogota has a population of one million and has a busy working industry.

What do you think the advantages of living in a Homestay/Residence are?
H: I stayed with a homestay family for 3 weeks at the beginning of my stay and enjoyed speaking English on a regular basis with my host family. They were very kind and polite people. I currently live in private residency where I benefit from more privacy to study.
G: I stay with a host family which I feel is the best option for me because the family are friendly, treat me well and cook nice food. I am now more familiar with British customs.

What do you talk about or do with your Host (family)/housemates?
H: We talked about our daily lives and travel. They helped me with regards to information about the city, public transport and restaurant recommendations in the city.
G: We talk about culture and our daily lives.

How do you travel around Cambridge and why?
H: Usually by foot because I do not have far to travel, but if there is more distance then I use bus.
G: I cycle as this is a good way to see the town and get around
