Studio Cambridge goes green!

13th November 2014

A good knowledge of English is a very positive thing; and the best place to learn English is, of course, England.

However, the travel required to come to England – the “tourism” which it involves – is not so positive.

Some 5,000 students come to Studio Cambridge each year. In so doing they fly more than 15 million miles and leave a huge carbon footprint.

In addition, we run thousands of excursions and airport transfers; our students and staff make a quarter of a million journeys to and from school; we heat, cool, clean, and maintain our classrooms and offices; we use thousands of text books, tons of paper, gallons of ink; we turn on and turn off light bulbs, air conditioners and computers tens of thousands of times, and we serve 20,000 meals in our café each year. The negative impact which we could have on the environment is considerable.

It is our responsibility, therefore, to make our business as environmentally neutral and sustainable as possible. To help us do so, we have joined “Green Tourism”.

Studio Cambridge is currently the only language school in the UK or Ireland

to have joined Green Tourism.

Our aims:

  • To comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and approved codes of practice.
  • To continuously improve our environmental and social performance.
  • To reduce pollution, emissions and waste.
  • To reduce the use of energy, water and other resources.
  • To raise awareness and encourage participation by employees, students and business partners in sustainable business practices.
  • To minimise risks associated with social and environmental issues.
  • To rely on the support of (and inspection visits by) “Green Tourism” and always to strive to improve our green credentials.
  • To maintain the highest physical and ethical standards for our students.
