Studio Missions

26th January 2018

A huge congratulations to Vinicius who completed the College Challenge! He succesfully visited all 31 Cambridge University Colleges and wrote a short paragraph about each institution. The aim of the missions is for students to meld their newly acquired language skills with an intense exploration of our city where they gain a better understanding of its history and beauty. His efforts have earned him awards but it is his tenacity to complete the challenge that has impressed everyone at Studio. So much so that the awards will now be known as the Vinicius College Challenge!

He tells us about his exploits below:

Why did you decide to come to Cambridge?

My father came up with the idea of improving my English in England so we started researching places I could go to. I read about Cambridge and I’m interested in History and Culture so we decided that it would be a great place for me to come.

Can you tell us about Studio Missions?

The first one I did was Great St Marys Tower. I had to climb to the top and then describe some things I could see. I did it and it was fun. I realised that I could do these missions and then I would discover the city. The next one I did was the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Sedgwick Museum, and the Scott Polar Museum. I also did one called the Cambridge United Challenge and one called Culinary Capers where I had to video of a visit to a restaurant on my phone!

Tell us about the College Mission

Well, I read that you could do a Studio Mission where you visited a college and get a bronze award – but I decided to visit them all and get a Gold award! So I did. All 31!

Which Colleges impressed you?

The best college was Darwin. I thought it was small from the outside but when I got inside it was mind-blowing! I sat back on a bench and I just relaxed, listening to the birds singing and the water flowing – beautiful.

It took me two weeks to visit all of them but it was definitely worth it. It really made me want to study in Cambridge. It was the best way to discover the city.
