Tips on how to pack for your summer abroad adventure

19th June 2018

It’s done. Decision made. You will be studying abroad and you are excited! You will see new places, meet new people and more importantly learn new things. A truly exciting time but as your departure approaches you realize that fitting an entire wardrobe into a suitcase will be hard to do.

There are two ways you can pack for a long trip, either you bring a big suitcase with your entire wardrobe or you take just the essentials and buy whatever you feel is missing once you get to your destination. The most important thing to remember when packing for your study abroad programme is that you don’t need to bring everything. But if you are still unsure as to how to manage the situation then here are few tips for you!

The basics:

Check the weather before you go to your destination and make sure to bring only what you really need for that season. Bring pieces of clothing that can go from day and night, and make sure to bring a sweater for those cold summer evenings. If you are studying English with us in England, we recommend bringing comfortable clothes as you’ll also be doing lots of activities here in Cambridge.

Hot tip: Make sure you leave some extra space in your suitcase for souvenirs. Our students love the famous Cambridge University sweater!

Electronics:

In the age of smartphones and laptops, it is hard to leave our electronics behind. Don’t be afraid to pack the ones you need for keeping in touch with loved ones back home or those that will help with your studies. Make sure you download all Apps that you know will make your experience even better. If you are coming to Studio Cambridge we recommend the Visit Cambridge App, an official guide to Cambridge and all that the city has to offer.

Hot tip: Make sure you bring an international adapter for all your charging needs.

Toiletries:

Leave most of your toiletries at home and purchase them when you are abroad unless you have specific brands that you must use. Bring sample sizes for your first couple of days, and then visit a local supermarket for the rest.

The VIP tip! Remember that the first word in study abroad is study! Bring any supplies you need that will help you have the best and most positive experience. Feeling at ease and not too homesick will allow you to concentrate on the reason you are in another county which is learning.
